D.I.Y. Up-Cycled Rag Rug

A couple of weeks ago, my Mum gave me two carrier bags full of old t-shirts and dresses. I’d been meaning to make my own fabric yarn for a while after seeing some photos on Pinterest – basically, it’s all in the cutting…

Below, is a photo of the t-shirts that have been chopped up and chain stitched (I used a 12mm hook) and are waiting to be added to the rug… Here is the tutorial I used from simplycrochetmag.co.uk on how to get started by making your own t-shirt yarn.

I’m still battling with my masterpiece as I find my fingers start to ache after about an hour or so – I just need to man-up and soak my fingers in vinegar or something! But this is my creation thus far 🙂

And this one below is the method I used where you basically crochet a chain, then loop it into the shape you want and sew it together:

Thank you for the good critique. Me and my cousin were just preparing to do a little research on this. We grabbed a book from our area library but I think I’ve learned better from this post. I am very glad to see such great info being shared freely out there.
